Field Trips & Group Tours

Experience the South Carolina Upcountry by spending the day at Hagood Mill in Pickens SC, with tours of our 170-year-old mill, the Petroglyph Center, blacksmith shop, moonshine still.  In addition, students can watch demonstrations by local artisans and do hands-on activities while learning about Native American/Early American artifacts, family life, school, and the church culture of the people of Appalachia.  These classes are outdoor and indoor.

We have also joined efforts with the Holly Springs Center and the Youth Learning Institute to offer 2 and 3 day field trips. These trips will allow your students to experience the SC Upcountry in a unique setting. You can offer your 3rd-8th grade students a customized trip which includes spending the day at Holly Springs Center and a day at Hagood Mill Historic Site.  They will be engaged in age-appropriate, hands on activities about the history, culture, and ecology of the mountainous part of the state.  Knowledgeable and experienced staff will teach classes, demonstrate their craft, and lead tours as well as give demonstrations/do activities about life in the Upcountry of SC during the 1700s through 1900s. Youth Learning Institute will provide dorm space for up to 80 adults and students and will also prepare all meals for your group. The costs make it quite reasonable for your group to travel to the upcountry and cover everything from lodging, meals, classes, tours except transportation.

Read more about the 1 day and 2-3 day trips here on this website on the trips' individual pages.
